On Friday at Boeing’s factory in South Carolina, the aviation giant rolled out the 787-10. It’s the newest and longest version of the Dreamliner, which has been flying since 2011.
Like its earlier counterparts, the 787-8 and 787-10, the newest Dreamliner features a futuristic shape and a composite construction, both of which make it more fuel-efficient than traditional airliners. But this one is 18 feet longer than the previous version, which means it can haul 40 more people and 15 percent more cargo.
The 787 is made from parts supplied from all around the world, but Boeing says the -10 will be exclusively built at the plant in South Carolina. According to CNET, that’ll make this plane the first Boeing to be produced somewhere other than Boeing’s Seattle home base.
Boeing says it will deliver the next planes starting next year and now has 149 aircraft on order.
