Abdullateef Aliyu, a Daily Trust Reporter in Lagos, has clinched the Air Transport Reporter of the year award at the prestigious Nigeria Aviation (NIGAV) awards for the year 2017.

NIGAV award is tagged “Nigeria’s most prestigious air transport award which has overtime helped to maintain a balance between operational efficiency, industry vibrancy and service delivery by promoting healthy competition and honouring individuals and organizations that have contributed towards the collective industry achievements.

During the eighth edition of the award held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos at the weekend, Aliyu clinched the Print category in the Air Transport Reporter of the year award.

According to the convener of the award, Mr. Fortune Idu, the annual event was borne out of the need to reward those who work tirelessly behind the scenes to achieve successful and safe Air Transport Service.

This is just as Dana Air’s duo of Collins Ginika and Chiogo Okani emerged as King and Queen of the Air Contest and Award.

Their first function was the donation of N100,000 to a charity, the SOS Children’s Villages Nigeria.

Idu said, “Every year, industry players and stakeholders look eagerly to that day where their selfless works will be recognised and applauded. The feeling is amazing and heart-warming and encourages the best in an industry where safety cannot be compromised and errors are not acceptable.

“NIGAV is now in its eighth year as the primary independent watchdog of the industry whose programmes inspire best practice and promote industry excellence”.

Publisher of Nigerianflightdeck.com, Anthony Patrick Omoh received the online category while Radio Nigeria’s Nosa Aituamen-Osula emerged the best Reporter and Presenter for the Radio category.

Other award winners included the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) as Aviation Agency of the Year, Jacky Hathiramani of Dana Air as CEO of the Year, Air Traffic Control Special Achievement for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) as Most Improved International Airport of the Year while Benin Airport emerged as the Most Improved Domestic Airport.
