Gunmen have attacked Kaduna Airport staff residing at  the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) quarters and reportedly abducted nine persons.
The bandits were said to have gained access to the residential quarters through the airport runway in late Friday night into Saturday morning.
The Corporate Affairs Manager of FAAN, Henrietta Yakubu confirmed the incident but told Daily Sun that they haven’t been able to ascertain the number of airport staff that were abducted but that investigations are ongoing.
However, a reliable source in the agency told Daily Sun that the entire family of one Mr. Sunny, who works in the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) was kidnapped, while the wife and daughter of a staff of NiMET was also affected.
“We learned that Mr. Sunny, his wife and five kids were kidnapped, including the wife and daughter of a staff of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET). The staff of NiMET was able to escape but his wife and daughter were not so lucky. We also learned that the NAMA staff had a female relative living with them but we don’t know if she was affected,” the source said.
Two houses were said to have been attacked and the gunmen later moved to the airside of the airport, according to residents.
‘’Immediately the attack happened, there was a cry for help which attracted the military personnel which led to a serious gun battle between the bandits and the security operatives,” another source said.
Yakubu said the attacks happened last night and a security meeting is ongoing.
She said the airport was not affected by the attack even though it was alleged they came in through the airside.
She also said an unscheduled flight had landed the airport on Saturday morning without any problem.
