In recognition of his contribution towards the growth and development of the aviation sector in the country, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) Capt. Fola Akinkuotu was on Friday honoured as patron of the prestigious Sky Tennis Club, Ikeja Lagos. The event which held at the Tennis Court in Ikeja attracted friends and colleagues of the NAMA boss as well as dignitaries cutting across the various agencies in the aviation industry. In his remarks at the investiture, the chairman of the club, Capt. Muyiwa Bajomo said Akinkuotu was carefully chosen by the management of the club because of his enormous contribution towards the growth of Nigerian aviation, as well as his advocacy for a healthy workforce in the sector.

“Capt. Akinkuotu is one of the most respected icons of the aviation industry in Nigeria. He is a highly focused and target-driven professional who delivers on his promises in the industry and the nation in general. Under his calm leadership, the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency has stabilized and is charting a steady course forward in its determination to enhance safety of air travel in the country. He is also an avid tennis fan, a lover of sports and long-time friend and supporter of the club,” Bajomo said. According to a citation by the club, Capt. Akinkuotu’s rich background in the industry as an accomplished leader and astute administrator would serve as a source of inspiration to upcoming aviators and members of the club.

In his acceptance speech, the NAMA helmsman expressed gratitude to the management of the club for the honour, saying that his guiding principle in life has been that of hard work and that his recognition by the club would spur him further towards contributing to the wellbeing of the society. The Sky Tennis Club has its roots firmly in the aviation industry. It started originally as the tennis section of Sky Power Sports Club of the Nigerian Airways and later metamorphosed into Sky Ports club in the early 80s. At present, a large chunk of its membership is drawn from the aviation industry. Also in attendance was Capt. Benoni Briggs, a former Minister of Aviation who was honoured as a grand patron of the club.
