Industry expert and the Managing Director of Aerocosult Limited, Babatunde Obadofin has frowned at those who are criticising the figures recently made public by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), saying that there should be a limit to such criticism.

Obadofin noted that it is an act of mischief to criticise the figures when the critics does not have enough facts to back the allegation that the figures are not correct, specially as the agency has made reference to its source of those figures.

He noted that one should not just criticise to run the agency down, knowing the implication of such criticism because NCAA is not only a mouthpiece of government, it is also a repertoire of information that relates to aviation from which other organisation, both international and local, and individuals draw from.

“The Modus Operandi of ART (Aviation Round Table) is to identify a problem, analyse it and bring it to the attention of the responsible authority or agency by way of consultation in getting further clarification, proffer solutions, and do all it can to mitigate or eliminate the problem by collaborating with agencies that show concern and are serious.

“It is when such agencies fail to respond or to take necessary action or turn deaf ear to it that the attention of the public and stakeholders may be drawn to it for contributions and concerted efforts where the health or safety of the industry is involved,” Obadofin said.

He noted that this is the way ART was designed to operate and has been operating.

“ART are not certified antagonists or critics of policy makers, government or its agencies, but attention drawers, enablers and to that extent, think-tank for the aviation industry.

“The issue of Controversy in Aviation Revenue as reported by the media would normally have gone through ART’s due process of drawing attention, the issue being directed to the appropriate quarters for clarification, verification and consultation and it is only when the agency concerned has refused audience or failed to cooperate or has provided unsatisfactory response that public attention is drawn to it,” Obadofin said.

he remarked that however individuals may express their opinion, which may not represent that of ART, which is a well respected assembly.

“ART is an assembly of decent, well-meaning people, seeking radical improvement to the state of the nation’s aviation industry – and not to be engaged in unprofitable and unnecessary confrontation,” Obadofin added.
