Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) zone two, comprising of Lagos and Ogun state, Mr. Ibrahim Adamu has promised to rid the beaches, waterfront recreational centers and waterways in Lagos and Ogun states of hoodlums’ sea pirates.
The police boss who has re-engineered the security formation in the zone in recent times, making life unbearable for social miscreants who had shifted attention away from the roads to the waterways in the zone in order to frustrate emerging recreation and waterfront businesses, noted that about eight gun boats fitted with the fastest outboard engines now patrol the Lagos waterways in order to pre-empt attacks by pirates and secure beaches and waterfront facilities in the zone.
In a brief welcome address to members of the Association of Tourist Boat Operators and Water Transporters (ATBOWATON) on a visit to his Onikan, Lagos office, AIG Ibrahim Adamu commended the association for holding forth at the height of challenges on the waterways and promised to make them part of the security solution on waterways.
“we shall henceforth consult and encourage you as partners in finding solutions to sustainable crime free waterways transportation in the zone and will at all times welcome your well informed suggestions on how to secure and grow waterway transportation as stress and crime free mode of movement of goods and services in the zone” AIG Adamu added.
Earlier in his presentation, President of ATBOWATON, Mr. Ganiyu Tarzan Balogun, informed the AIG zone two that his association is pleased with the quick response of the police to issues on Lagos waterways in recent times and commended Mr. Ibrahim Adamu for the effort.
He pledged that ATBOWATON will support the police to sustain the new effort in order to encourage robust development on waterways transportation and other emerging business concerns related to the waterways.
Towards this end, Mr. Balogun requested and promised that ATBOWATON would bear the cost of repairs and maintenance of all broken down and repairable outboard engines of immovable gunboats in the fleet of the police in the zone as a measure of practicable support to the AIG’s game changing security oversight.
Top police officers who joined AIG Adamu to receive the ATBOWATON team during the visit are Duputy Commissioner Police, Aliyu Garba, DCP Nna (Mrs), DC Operation, Titilayo Kayode, Dahiru Ibrahim, Benjamin Ogunbuwe and zonal police public relation officer, Dolapo Badmus.
