Following weather advice it received from JFK International Airport New York, Arik Air announced on Friday night that it had to cancel the flight and informed all its passengers that the Lagos – New York flight for Friday 22nd January has been rescheduled tentatively to 11:30pm (local time) Sunday 24th January, 2016.
The airline said the 48-hour postponement was intended to allow the dangerous winter storm (Jonas) and snow condition to clear before the flight’s entry into the United States airspace.
Arik Air said it regretted the inconvenience caused by this postponement “which is highly regretted, but the safety of passengers is of upper-most importance to the airline”, Arik said in a statement.
“We would update passengers and confirm our next flight by 6pm Saturday, 23rd January, 2016.
“Passengers may also call the following numbers at any time for update: +234 1-2799999, +234 807 7793 503, +234 807 7793 504,” the airline also said.
Since two days ago over 3000 flights had been cancelled in the US alone.
